Turkish warplanes have carried out cross-border attacks against suspected Kurdish rebel bases in northern Iraq. Reports say the attacks were aimed at 10 different villages and left at least one person dead and several others wounded. The Turkish military has in recent weeks increased its cross-border raids against targeted strongholds of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK. Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek told the state-run Anatolia news agency that more strikes against were likely in the coming weeks. Ankara has also stationed more than 100,000 troops along the Turkish-Iraqi border in an attempt to stop PKK attacks inside Turkey.
